Privacy Policy

Last updated 25 July 2026

This policy explains what personal information SlateSEO collects, why, how long we keep it, and how you can see, correct or delete it. It is written to meet the Information Privacy Principles in the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.

What we collect

  • Enquiries. If you use the contact form or claim a free audit, we store the name, email, phone number, website and message you submit.
  • Free audit results. The URL you audit and the technical results of that audit. We fetch the public page only — we never log into your site.
  • Directory listings. The business details you submit for publication, which are public by design once approved.
  • Client lead data. For clients, leads captured through forms we build. Contact fields are encrypted at rest.
  • Server logs. IP address and request details, for security and troubleshooting.

What we don't do

  • We do not run third-party analytics or advertising trackers on this website.
  • We do not sell, rent or trade personal information.
  • We do not send marketing email. Enquiries go to an internal inbox and we reply directly.

How long we keep it

  • Enquiries that don't become clients: deleted within 24 months.
  • Free audit results: deleted within 12 months.
  • Client records and lead data: kept for the engagement, then 7 years for tax and legal obligations.
  • Rejected directory submissions: deleted within 3 months.

Where it is stored

Our application and database are hosted on Railway, which stores data on servers outside New Zealand. Data is encrypted in transit, and lead contact fields are encrypted at rest.

Your rights

Under the Privacy Act 2020 you can ask what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Contact us and we will respond within 20 working days. There is no charge.

If something goes wrong

If a privacy breach occurs that could cause serious harm, we will notify the people affected and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner, as the Act requires. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.
